Do you think starting off as platonic room mates could lead to a healthy marriage?

I just have this theory in mind that if two people come together just to be room mates that in time they will learn about each other without the pressure/consequence of and if someday they decided to marry that they would have had a good foundation already from living together what are your thoughts?
